Pasadena Police K9 Unit
Scientific Research
The Pasadena Police Department K-9 unit uses canines to make environments safe for our officers and the community. Canines have the ability to sniff narcotic and explosive odors that cannot be seen or smelled by humans. Each canine detection team is sent to a 240 hour school where the canine is imprinted in various odors. We currently deploy three narcotic detection canines and three explosive detection canines. To ensure optimal performance, our canines are required to train at least 16 hours a month and attend a monthly evaluation with a third party vendor.
In 2023, our canines were used for 28 narcotic searches and 96 explosive sweeps.
Stop by our booth at the Science Fair and watch these amazing canines sniff out crime!
